System description

Dust extraction from flour sprinklers

Total capacity

3,000 m3/h

Task

Excessive concentration of flour dust in room air.

Solution

The dust extraction system is sized to handle up to 12 kg of excess flour per hour from three automatic flour sprinklers to the rolling table for rolling out dough and for vacuuming equipment and floors.

To be able to extract the excess flour away from the dough and the belt, the flour needed to be made airborne. This was done by fitting the inside of the suction screens with compressed-air rotating Uni-blower elements, with special air nozzles that whirl up the excess flour during rotation. Directional air is blown over the dough and belt with an adjusted amount of compressed air, so that dust is not introduced into the room, but kept under the screen and extracted away.

The system's filter is set up in production to minimise the risk of the flour dust soaking up moisture and thereby building up sticky dust-cakes on the filter inserts, which are a challenge to clean off.

As flour dust can potentially form an explosive atmosphere and, upon ignition, cause a dust explosion, the system is equipped in accordance with the ATEX Directive.

The fan is frequency controlled to automatically compensate for varying system resistance in the system.
